There are moments in every Disney fan’s journey that tug at the heartstrings—and this week, we’re bidding a bittersweet farewell to one of Hollywood Studios’ most charming and nostalgic attractions. After delighting guests for over three decades, Muppet*Vision 3D has officially taken its final bow.
First opening in 1991, Muppet*Vision 3D was a quirky gem tucked away near Echo Lake, offering guests a hilarious peek inside the chaotic world of the Muppets with cutting-edge (for its time!) 3D effects and plenty of classic Kermit and Miss Piggy charm. For families, it was a perfect cool-down break, and for longtime Disney-goers, it was a sentimental favorite.
As of June 7, 2025, the entire Muppet Courtyard area has closed to make way for something entirely new: a Monsters, Inc.-themed land featuring Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster. Construction walls are now up, and yes—even the iconic Miss Piggy fountain is gone, signaling the end of an era.
If you’re like many fans, you probably have memories of laughing at Fozzie’s corny jokes or dodging (virtual) cream pies flying off the screen. It was one of those rare attractions where older guests chuckled just as much as the kids. It was silly, clever, and packed with love for Jim Henson’s legacy.
But if there’s one constant at Disney, it’s change—and the new Monsters, Inc. area promises to be a thrilling and imaginative addition to Hollywood Studios. Early concept art suggests a fully immersive Monstropolis, complete with doors hanging overhead, laugh canisters, and appearances from Sulley and Mike Wazowski. While the loss of Muppet*Vision stings, the incoming expansion aims to capture the same family-friendly spirit with a fresh, high-energy twist.
So what does this mean for your next trip? If you’re visiting in late 2025 or 2026, prepare for construction walls in the Echo Lake/Grand Avenue area and potentially rerouted walkways. While the opening date of the new Monsters, Inc. land hasn’t been announced yet, insiders are buzzing about a late 2026 debut—just in time for those planning next year’s summer vacation.
In the meantime, families might consider adding some of Hollywood Studios’ other nostalgia-rich shows to their plans. For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration is great for little ones, and Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage still offers that Broadway sparkle.
And if you’re feeling wistful? Why not stream The Muppet Movie before your trip or stop by the Muppets merch section at Keystone Clothiers for a keepsake. Disney may be moving forward, but there’s always room for a little “Mahna Mahna” magic in your heart.
